Ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), also known as “Nitrifying Bacteria,” are microorganisms that consume ammonia for energy and are present wherever a nitrogen cycle is taking place. The specific type of AOB used in our D23 Ammonia Oxidizing Bacteria Topical Spray is Nitrosomonas eutropha D23. The Nitrosomonas in the mist work by consuming the irritating compounds produced by your skin, such as ammonia and urea in sweat, and creating beneficial byproducts. Specifically, Nitrosomonas produce Nitrite and Nitric Oxide. Nitrite tames the "bad bacteria" and promotes the "good bacteria" on the skin. Nitric Oxide is a key antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Together, these two byproducts do a great deal to promote healthy skin overall.

Yes, AO+ Mist is good for all skin types! The ammonia-oxidizing bacteria in our Mist are naturally occurring, and no synthetic ingredients are used. The Mist is certified vegan, preservative-free, and fragrance-free.

Good question! We're so glad you asked. First, shake the bottle. Apply at least 2-3 spritzes to the skin, twice a day. Use as the last step in your routine after all other products (lotions, makeup, SPF, etc.). Be sure to focus on areas with high amounts of sweat glands: the face, scalp, underarms, groin, hands, and feet. Great times to spritz are: after showers, after swimming in a pool (rinse the chlorinated water off first!), before workouts, and in the evenings before bed. Most importantly - experiment! For maximum benefit from the live probiotic mist, use it within 6 months from purchase if kept refrigerated (recommended) or within 4 weeks if stored at room temperature (68℉-86℉). A bottle lasts most customers for 1-3 months, depending on their daily usage and time of year - hotter months mean more sweating, so an extra couple of sprays will keep your AOBs primed and ready.

Our AOB are living organisms and therefore sensitive to their environment. As a soil-based bacteria, they are able to survive in much the same temperatures as humans - freezing will kill them, as will long exposure to extremely high temperatures. They can handle short-term exposure to higher temperatures up to 95°F for several days. Your package arriving warm is okay and has no impact on the product's life or potency. We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days from the date you receive your item to request a return.

We understand that our AO+ Mist's results may vary from person to person. So, if you've used our product and decide it is not for you, send it back to us for a full refund of the purchase price.
